Spencer's Surprise
Please try not to think about how LATE this post is... (Spence's birthday was the 30th of July). Sad but true, I am that "bad" of a wife-blogger. Oh well shoot me. I will say/admit that I did a FABULOUS job at this little 30th birthday for my handsome hubby. One that we will remember forever. And a lot of the thanks that goes into this masterpiece birthday surprise goes to Ben and Mandi. They not only kept the secret (Mandi), but played it off in many priceless ways (Spencer had no idea). Thank you also to Mandi's parents, who let us come up to their beautiful home in Portland; then use their Cabin/house in Black Butte... of course Ben and Mandi were with us the whole time... that made more than half the fun for us.
So here is a "glimpse" of our dreamy weekend.
Spencer had no idea what we (him and I) were doing. He knew something, that is that we were doing maybe something. He didn't know it didn't include the kids, or that my mom was flying up to watch them. He had no idea where or when or how we were going, just that we were "going".
When the 31st arrived Spencer went to work... he had a little "hint" at work. It really wasn't a hint at all, just something to drive him more nuts about this surprise. I had this book of the United States on his desk with a note that read: We are going "somewhere" in here... and of course it had all the states in the book... he about killed me. And just to put the nail in the coffin, on how "frustrated he was", I will give you our conversation after he opened his "hint"
Me: HI Spencer, happy Birthday
Spence: What the hell is this?
Me: what do you mean... oh the hint... don't you know? Oh well you will understand later.
Spence: what time are you coming here!?!
Me: I don't know soon.
Spencer: dial tone
*And if you know my husband, you know that he doesn't get frustrated too much and well, that little "hell" was maybe the third time I have heard him curse; if that is even a curse word. It was great.
My mom, the kiddos and I picked Spencer up, went to lunch at our favorite lunch deli and then I was off with Spencer. We got in the car and he automatically got into the driver seat. I got into the passenger's side and then he started the car he looked confused and realized he didn't know where we were headed. I told him to drive to the airport.
Once there we sat down and waited (while we were sitting there Ben was trying to hide from us, he was on our flight to Portland), thankfully we got onto the plane with no "hiccups"... it was smooth. I have it on video below.
Once we arrived in Portland, Mandi picked us up and we were off for a perfect weekend. This is a little of what happened in pictures:
A little wake boarding was done in the river behind the Croft's home, I know... wish wish. I know Spencer should practice more... not very good is he?! Seriously.
Great conversation was held everywhere... pool, deck, eating, bird watching.
(By the way Ben & Spencer found the "celestial kingdom of birding" while there...
I know you are all jealous)
This was maybe the best thing eaten the whole time. That is eaten by Mandi and myself. Spencer and Ben were trying to "save" money - a whole whoppin 9 bucks... so they didn't get dessert. You should have seen how sad Spencer's face was after he blew out the candle and Mandi and I swooped in and took our dessert. It was divine. No joke. It was this moist Chocolate cake with grainy graham crackers/sugar in it with a melted marshmallow on top with carmel... DIVINE.

Spencer making me laugh

We then packed up and made out way back to Portland and were off back home. It was honestly unreal. It worked out so well from the weather, food to the company... nothing could have made it better.
So there you have it... Happy Birthday Babe. I hope you had a good time and know that I love you more than anything.
**See video below for "surprise" as to where we were going and when he first saw Ben on the plane... (Ben is holding the paper to the left of the screen).
