Bugs!

Today I got Hudson out of the house (I tried for a good two hours to talk him into a bike ride... he finally stopped playing with his cars to join me.) on a walk and tried my best walking with two kiddos.  I strapped Reagan to my chest in a sling, and Hudson rode his tricycle, with a push bar for me.

Here is a little of what happened...

  • Had to hit every BUMP in the rode (the street divider bumps - you know... the bright yellow and blue ones?!).  He is really into bumps.

  • Had to stop and snack on a fruit snack every ten feet or so (mind you this walk was about a mile) until the bag ran out.  Lucky for me there was only about 10 fruit snacks.

  • On the way back (all uphill) from mailing some letters - that was the walks destination - Hudson walked the whole way.  That is until his "bum" started hurting him?!??  Then he got back on the bike to let me push him uphill - thank you Hudson.

  • While walking back to our house we saw a rolley-polly (sp?).  This is the first rolley-polly I have seen in ages, and Hudson's first time as well.  So I stopped him and got down to show him (Reagan was probably smashed this whole time in the sling - but she didn't make a peep, oh well.) how the rolley-polly works.  He was AMAZED to say the least.  He wasn't really sure about touching it until I gave him the "go ahead pick it up".  (Side note HE HATES ants and to be honest all bugs... the way I get him to brush his teeth is I tell him there are all sorts of sugar bugs on his teeth we have to get off of they will eat his teeth away - works like a charm every time.)  Once I told him to pick it up it rolled into a little ball and he was hooked.  He wouldn't put it down and asked if we could "take it to Hudson's house?"   So here was our convo.:

W: Hudson he has a house.  We don't need to take it home with us.

H: Peeease mom.  Hudson's house?

W: Okay, JUST DON'T SQUISH IT!
(Meanwhile Hudson is rolling the poor bug in his hands firmly - picture the scene of mice and men and the puppy?!  All I could think of was nasty little bug guts all over his hands - ew!)

Replay the above conversation for about ten min.

H: (while rolling and pinching the bug) Mommy,  bug has ouch.  - He drops the bug looks at it blows it a kiss and tells it good-bye.  Then stomps off to jump on more "bumps".

So - although my little man doesn't understand the concept of
"hold it soft" yet, at least he gives a proper valedictory.

He's too funny. I love the teeth brushing tactic. May I copy you?!

Whitney, I just clicked on your link from Sandy's site and I am so glad I did. It's great to see you and your family. Congrats on number 2. She's adorable and you look fantastic for having just had a baby.

Ben HATES bugs too. It's so funny, especially since he loves all other boy-like things. I don't complain because at least this means that we don't have stashes of spiders and grasshoppers in the house.

Mayah has a bug catcher and pretty much the only bugs I allow in it are the roly polys (I call them twiddle bugs...but that's just another crazy Sandy word!!) Speaking of that...the BRAD is the the thing I stuck in the middle of the flower. I don't really know how to describe it but it's something you poke through something else then spread the two metal pieces apart so it stays put. Does that make any sense?? I really thought that was the correct term for them...what do you call those?
