Turkeys

We live on a golf course - sounds glamorous, doesn't it?  and we have these roaming wild turkeys that greet us every morning, almost.  (The males when in heat/ or when aggressive look like this above.)   Hudson LOVES to greet them as well.  If I am braving it, meaning wanting to go outside in pjs, we will grab some bread and feed the turkeys.  Well... now they know where we live.

So this morning Hudson was calling after them in his screeching "TUUUURRRRKEYS", which they reply with a goubblegoubble (sp?).  Kind of funny how they "talk" to each other.

H. was pushing his head against the screen, which I quietly said while walking away that if he pushes too hard he will fall out, and who knows... the turkeys might come over and eat his eyes.
I know, why do I say those things?!  Well, usually they don't register with H., he just looks at me and thinks, oh well... I will give it a try anyway.

So about 15 min.  later I hear this scream and his little feet running my way all the while him covering some of his eyes.  I asked him what was wrong and with a distraught face he exclaimed that the turkeys were scary and were coming after him to eat his eyes!!

 Then he said,
"Mommy, Hudsie likes his eyes."
(Not sure where the third person started, but it is frequently heard in his conversations; we are working on that.)

I assured him that the turkeys were not mean; but that we just look and never touch... and then I had to assure him that turkeys don't eat eyes, and mommy was just teasing when I said that.  Then I assured him that he was safe in the house and that mommy and daddy would never let anything hurt him.

Then I told him I loved his eyes too.

He thought this comfort I gave was good enough and went about playing, while I sat there laughing and kicking myself for letting my tease get to this... but sometimes it works like a gem.

Hey - He hasn't pushed his face/body on the screen since... thus not falling 6 fee to the ground outside; and who knows the turkeys might have pecked him a bit?!  (I know - probably not.)

Haha. That is so funny. I am kind of afraid of birds for the very reason that they might peck someone's eyes out...

Cute story. It's crazy how careful you have to be about what you say around your kids. Carly is a parrot and you never know what she is going to repeat.
